BRINK LAWYERS PA is proud to announce that Laura Helgeson of Walhalla, North Dakota, is the winner of the Fall 2022 BRINK LAWYERS UND Law Scholarship. Ms. Helgeson is entering into her second year at the UND School of Law and is currently a member of the Law Women’s Caucus and Phi Delta Phi (International Legal Honor Society). This past summer she worked as a legal extern for Fleming, DuBois and Fleming, PLLP in Cavalier, North Dakota, and will be returning again this summer. Ms. Helgeson is excited to obtain her student practice papers this summer and gain experience in the courtroom. Ms. Helgeson obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the Minnesota State University Moorhead, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Ms. Helgeson was a 2006 graduate of North Border High School – Walhalla.
The Brink Lawyers UND Law Scholarship gives preference to UND students who have a connection to the Northern Red River Valley. One goal of the scholarship is to encourage prospective attorneys to move back to the Northern Red River Valley after law school. There is a current crisis of lack of representation, especially for the poor and under-served, in the Northern valley in both Minnesota and North Dakota. In these rural communities, as current attorneys retire or otherwise leave the practice, fewer and fewer young attorneys come to replace them.
Brink Lawyers is a five-attorney law firm located in Hallock, Minnesota founded by legendary litigator Lyman Brink in 1934. All of the attorneys at Brink Lawyers are licensed in both Minnesota and North Dakota. Throughout its history, nearly every attorney ever affiliated with Brink Lawyers has been a graduate of the UND School of Law.
Laura plans to graduate from UND School of Law in spring of 2024 and then sit the summer 2024 bar exam.
